Diagnosed in 2007, Carlo Romero went years between bouts of A-Fib until an operation for a herniated disc in 2010.
The severe pain and the medications probably triggered the A-Fib again and he had several attacks. His new electrophysiologist was in Manila, an hour and half plane ride from his province.
Put on amiodarone and Coumadin, he had no attacks for a year, but the amiodarone caused abnormal thyroid problems.
