2025 AF Symposium: First Human Trial of Nanosecond Pulse Field Ablation

Dr. Vivek Reddy
As an energy source, pulsed field ablation (PFA) has generated tremendous excitement as an A-Fib treatment, largely due to its safety benefits.
Dr. Vivek Reddy, Director of Electrophysiology for the Mount Sinai Health System, reports on a trial of a variant energy pulse for Pulse Field Ablation, instead of microsecond pulses it uses nanosecond pulses.
Microsecond vs Nanosecond Pulses
Dr. Reddy pointed out that all current Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) systems employ microsecond pulses, but sometimes you run up against a thermal limit to what you can deliver.
But nanosecond PFA has less thermal effect because the PFA pulses are shorter and larger in amplitude. This allows the Nanosecond PFA system to deliver more energy and create deeper lesions in a shorter time.
The first-in-human trial of the Pulse Biosciences Nanosecond PFA system is designed to assess its feasibility, safety and… <-Read about the trial and what more energy and deep lesions means for A-Fib patients.->
