2025 AF Symposium: Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) Danger of Hemolysis

A circular catheter for Pulsed Field Ablation
Dr. Pierre Jais of the Central Hospital, Bordeaux, France, gave a presentation on the “Safety Considerations with Pulsed Field Ablation—Hemolysis”.
Dr. Jais stressed the importance of catheter design for Pulsed Field Ablation. For example, a large amount of current from a circular catheter goes into the blood pool vs. hitting A-Fib signal sources.
This destroys red blood cells which transport oxygen to the body. The destruction of red blood cells. is called Hemolysis.
