Healthcare Trend: ‘The Personal Health Record’ (PHR)
There is growing momentum to encourage consumers to maintain their own health records. The idea is that the more consumers know about their health, the more control they will take over it and the healthier they’ll be.
Having a Personal Health Record (PHR) also encourages you to share more health-related information with each of your health service providers. A PHR can be paper-based or in digital format. Paper records may be easier to secure, but electronic records are more convenient. Electronic records can be kept on different digital media, including your laptop, “smart” cards, thumb drives, CDs, or web-based applications.
Tips for carrying your personal health record:
• Athletes can carry a paper-based PHR on their athletic shoe. (Shoe pocket by Vital ID)
• A digital PHR can be transferred to a credit card-size USB and slipped into your wallet. (From ER Card)
